Review
Logan and Colton have finally located Tyler, but it’s not smooth sailing as they have come face to face with a horde of PrimeWarriors as well as a determined Nuke. In the midst of the chaos, Logan makes a choice that is sure to have ramifications for the entire world. A choice that will pave the road to Armageddon.
The opening prologue of Marvel’s “universe-changing” Avengers: Armageddon event hits more with the force of a nerf gun than a cannon, but overall it manages to accomplish it’s goal of setting things up for the summer. When it’s all said and done this really is a story less about Logan, and more about Colton. Tyler is more of an afterthought and a plot device than an actual character which is a shame, but hopefully someone else will pick his story back up. The villains outside of Nuke are painfully one-note, which makes this climax fall flat as there is no real incentive to want to see the bad guys taken out other than they are bad.
Complaints aside, Zdarsky still lands the plane successfully. Outside of the Tyler and the villains of it all, Colton and Nuke get a solid amount of focus, the latter even being set up for a potential redemption arc down the road which is something I never thought would happen with Nuke. For Colton a lot of blanks are filled in about his origin as well as what happened to him after the Latveria incident that was chronicled in the first arc of Zdarsky’s Captain American run.
Luca Maresca’s art finishes strong though a couple of things fall a bit short of the mark. The fight against the PrimeWarriors is frenetic and bloody, but Tyler’s adamantium whips and armor feel more like a poor man’s symbiote than anything that really stands out, making it come off more hokey than cool.
Final Thoughts
Weapons of Armageddon may not have ended in the grandest of fashions, it managed to accomplish its mission of setting elements up to be followed through in Avengers: Armageddon next of month.
