In Your Skin #4

Recap
Ayesha has pulled herself out of the hell Priyanka put her in, and is on the warpath for revenge, while Priyanka has found that fame and celebrity have a dark side she never learnt how to deal with. In this final issue, the original and the doppelgänger are on a collision course neither can escape. Once the skin is shed... there is no going back.
Review
Ayesha Sen’s reputation has tanked with nothing but blood and flesh left behind. In the burning ashes of her fame, the real Ayesha has arrived for one final confrontation that will forever change both of them.
This final issue of In Your Skin is a bit difficult to get through at times, whole chunks of the story feel like they are missing, but it still manages to round out into a decently satisfying conclusion. It’s a bit of a grind to try and go through the issue blow by blow because honestly not much happens outside of the book’s ending, so the story builds to that conclusion.
Aditya Bidikar’s script is engrossing, but some of the themes of identity and purpose get lost in the midst of the body horror. The conclusion feels earned in the end, but it also feels like things were a bit rushed to get here. Priya and Ayesha’s connection at the end adds a bit more context into how the body swap could have happened, but it also feels a bit tacked on. There was definitely more story to tell here and I wish that the creative team was given that room to explore.
Som’s art does a bulk of the heavy lifting in this finale, which is not a bad thing at all. The final dance scene alone is some of the best artwork I’ve seen of any comic all year.
Final Thoughts
In Your Skin stumbles a bit in the end, but still manages to stick the landing. There are still some things left on the table, but it still has some interesting things to say about identity. Hopefully this creative team will get more work in the future.
