Miko is a typical high school student whose life turns upside down when she suddenly starts to see gruesome and hideous monsters. She must endure the fear to keep herself and her friend Hana out of danger, even if that means facing the absolute worst. Blending comedy and horror, Mieruko-chan tells the story of a girl who tries to deal with the paranormal by acting indifferently.

Tsukiko Sagi, a shy character designer who created the immensely popular pink dog Maromi, is pressured to repeat her success. They suspect that Tsukiko is lying about the attack until they receive word of a second victim.

However, the Storyteller is no ordinary teller of tales. He incorporates a kamishibai, a traditional paper-scrolling device, to add visuals to his already demented narration.
