Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective

Recap
Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective combines deduction, detective work, and medicine into one crashing world. I do enjoy anime that involves sleuthing; the anime allows you to see how one mind works in piecing together a case. This world will open your eyes to see just how medicine works in solving cases.
Review
Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective reminds me a bit of House M.D. and Sherlock, except softer. The world we enter is filled with mystery about each patient or death. It shows how Dr. Takao’s mind works; even the first episode is called Dr. Sherlock. They even give her a mind palace like in Sherlock. This was such a thrill to watch, I was always obsessed with the mind palace when it was first shown in Sherlock, and now that is bleeding into anime form. I was way too excited and squealed about it.
Dr. Takao gives the sense that she is exactly where she needs to be—wrapped in a world that only she knows and can strike the path. She is even a little bit conceited when she calls herself a genius from time to time. It keeps her ego there; however, there are episodes where we see her softer side. The very human side that isn’t filled with a clinical eye. We see her at times break over things that she cannot control. Even when things don’t go her way or if someone insults her. She does revert to who she is truly. A person who is not being treated like anything but a genius. Especially if you call her a brat, man, does she have a mean kick when someone says that to her.
We are also introduced to Dr. Yu Takanashi, who is Dr. Takao’s student. And the one who gets dragged everywhere with her when she goes on her adventure to solve these cases. Unwilling? Nope, he actually enjoys going on these cases with her and even helps solve them. While he seems reluctant, There are moments when he still does his best to help Dr. Takao—even giving her advice when she slowly spirals in one episode. This allows a moment to see how grounded they are and how they work well together. And there are small undertones of romance; when I say undertones, I mean it’s buried. Just small moments that gives the idea that something more could happen.
However, the plot in the anime is steady with each case they take on. It does not leave much room for anything else but how they work the case. Each character has their moments, giving the two main characters their moment to shine. It gives them the ability to see how they bring people in and orbit around them. The pull of each case isn’t dull either, nor are they predictable. Several of them shocked me because I thought I had figured it out myself.
This was one that I could see myself watching on repeat, either on a Saturday or even during my work day (ssh, don’t tell my boss).
The anime dives further into the world of mystery, giving you a moment to view how Dr. Takao’s mind works. Dr. Yu also helps flesh out Dr. Takao; he isn’t just some sidekick but someone who gives them grace for how blunt they can be. The contrast between them works well; none fade in the background, and they keep it present during each episode.
