Castlevania Season 2: What a Glorious Night to Have a Curse

This season was an awesome follow-up to the quite good first season while improving. Trevor is more likable thanks to his continuous interaction with Sypha & Alucard. Interactions that, more often than not, were surprisingly funny given the mature and dark tone of the series. You actually felt like they were growing to be friends despite the arguing which suggests otherwise. When all three were together it never got old. We get more backstory on each of the main trio as well as several of the new characters and even seeing what happened the fateful night Lisa died.

There’s a mix of new characters taken from previous games as well as some originals just for the series. Their designs are all interesting and take cues from different parts of the globe. Showing the true scope of the vampire presence. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few most of them get no dialogue to speak of. Just being very very interesting background figures that get brief spotlights in combat but nothing else. But the ones who do (Godbrand, Carmilla, Hector, & Isaac) all bring something interesting to the table that makes them each memorable. Carmilla being the most standout of the bunch.

The visuals are top notch as is the choreography in the fights. The music, especially in one particular scene, is fittingly amazing. Though they stick to the classical angle rather than adding in the rock or metal common to Castlevania music. There are also tons of references to other Castlevania titles. Hector & Isaac from the long forgotten Castlevania Curse of Darkness plays a significant role in the plot this time around. Alucard fittingly has several callbacks to Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Sypha, while she didn’t shy from spells before, is far more active in using Holy Flames & Blue Splash from Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Several iconic Castlevania monsters also appear though I’ll let you watch and see that for yourself.
