Review
Cherry Magic starts with the life of Kiyoshi Adachi who has had bad luck in love and has no clue on what romance is. Spending his days only going to work and staying home, rarely leaving to go out. Only to find that one day he could listen to the thoughts of those he could touch. A small graze of the shoulder, a tap on the foot, and their thoughts are ready for him to listen to. But why would this happen? Well, the only ongoing theory is that Adachi is, well, a virgin. Never being with anyone really gave him a perk in life. At least, that’s what he thought until he couldn’t stop it from happening. The train seems to become very brutal for him to take during his morning and night commutes as it is packed with people and barely any wiggle room for him to have a moments peace.
One day Adachi meets his coworker, Yuichi Kurosawa, at the elevators and starts to get curious about his love life. But what Adachi didn’t expect is that Kurosawa is in love with Adachi. And this whirlwind of information has thrown Adachi into deep thoughts, confusing feelings, and very hilarious and awkward moments between Adachi and Kurosawa. The certainty of Kurosawa’s feelings is such a delight to watch, to see that he is determined to be with Adachi but is still able to give him breathing room to try and understand his feelings. The set up between them both is very funny, the constant back and forth of their friendship that is slowly turning into romance. Adachi always knowing what Kurosawa is thinking and the battle in his mind between Desire and Logic. We could not stop laughing during these hilarious moments.
And to see in the shadows of their job was a coworker that was silently cheering them on, now that episode ended with us on the floor laughing so loud. We couldn’t stop chuckling in between those scenes. We do recommend giving Cherry Magic a try and see where this road of uncertain love leads you. Satelight has done a beautiful job in animating the series and given us beautiful visuals in every episode they have done. Cherry Magic has also been adapted into a live action, that is very much worth the watch as well. It is just as funny as the anime too.
Final Thoughts
We were touched how gentle this anime was, such a beautiful message of just trying to find peace in yourself and to understand your feelings after not knowing what love or romance is. To see this couple slowly understand one another was very touching. The romance, and the slice of life aspect was such a great way to end our week and start the beginning of Pride Month.
