Review
Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions world is filled with a mystery that surrounds not just their cases but Ron as well. An incident that he doesn’t remember, one that is filled with blood on his hands, and the reason that he is never allowed to be a detective. Totomaru Isshiki is a rookie detective who loves his job but is forced to be in the background due to his mistakes. One day, after being sent away from a case, he complains to a friend and is sent directly to Ron. And this is the meeting that everyone will be waiting for.
Ron is a recluse who wants nothing to do with police cases, as he is never allowed to be involved in them. However, he hears about the case Totomaru wants help with by chance. And this develops into a partnership that they both never expected. This partnership is to help Totomaru through his journey as a detective and find the mystery surrounding Ron’s past.
While the anime is filled with mystery and sleuthing to the max, it gives off Case Closed vibes. While Ron isn’t a child in this one, having someone else take the credit for his work and trying to push for Totomaru to allow him to see more cases does show how this evolved differently from Case Closed.
The stories within the anime are enjoyable, and the animation is crisp and clear. As a fellow crime buff, this is one of the animes that has held me in a chokehold. I have watched this one three times because of the enjoyable dynamic between Ron and Totomaru.
The plot expands even further, and there is a twist that involves finding out the darkness that is hidden from Ron. The world of criminals and detectives dives even deeper with each passing episode. Even the side characters have compelling stories that also bring the plot together.
Junya Enoki voices Totomaru Isshiki, who you may know as the VA for Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen. He is already one of my favorite voice actors, and seeing him in this role furthers him on my favorite VA list. Y?hei Azakami voices Ron Kamonohashi; you may know him as Masayoshi Hashimoto from Classroom of the Elite. The way he speaks is smooth, way too smooth, and had me swooning too many times. He creates an atmosphere within Ron that draws you in and makes you want to hear more about the story.
