Review
One of my favorite anime genres is isekai anime…being able to be reborn in a different world, one that can be filled with magic and dragons. I would be so down for that; seeing this play out throughout the anime is always exciting. The Great Cleric is different in this, so you should be able to pick what you want to be and one that will help you move forward in life. When we meet Luciel, he decides to be a healer who will help others. However, their primary mission is not to die again. The anime touches a lot on how the world Luciel is from focuses more on working than anything.
Luciel resolves to be a good healer during The Great Cleric after hearing how corrupt other healers are. You will see this a lot throughout the anime, and it sets its groundwork exactly in the first episode as well. Luciel bumps into a group of men who chastise him for being a healer, suspicious of him turning corrupt like the rest. While others try to guide him, the suspicion around him being a healer shows when his guild initially doesn’t want to go to him.
We also meet Brod during Luciel’s time in the adventures guild. Brod is the guild’s chief instructor and one man to be respected. Luciel goes to him to teach our little healer how to fight so that he can help others more. He doesn’t just want to be a healer; he wants others to see him as a pillar. Especially when they need to go on adventures. Even now, Luciel thinks about the long term of keeping himself secure and alive. At the same time, training is not just becoming a healer but an adventure as well. He does end up pushing his limits, but he keeps moving forward.
Brod and Luciel now understand how to save lives, not just adventures but for anyone who would ask him for aid. Brod plays a lot in advising as a mentor and a friend to Luciel during the anime. He doesn’t sugarcoat what is happening with the corrupt healers. And while the adventures guild is opening up to Luciel more. At every turn, he sees how bad it has gotten in this new world he was transported in.
I liked The Great Cleric. It plays on the corruption of healers and the church and how it takes time to rebuild trust from someone who wants to help and gain support and friends. While the anime is only 12 episodes long, it still gives you the lore of everything you will need to know about Luciel’s new world. I am hoping they do a second season for this one. It should be able to bring in its fanbase regarding Luciel. Especially trying to find his footing in a world he was just transported to and be able to unravel the correlation.
Also, please stay away from substance X! Don’t drink it! Even if the perks are worth it!
Final Thoughts
Luciel enters a world of magic and mystical creatures, excited to become a healer. This world is great to see and shows the reality of corruption with the people you are meant to trust. The Great Cleric must be on your anime to watch during the weekend. Don't miss Lucie's adventure of surviving and becoming a top-tier healer!
