Stargirl – Summer School: Chapter One
Stargirl
The second season of the CW’s Stargirl starts off a bit darker, almost like something from a horror movie. It sets the tone for a bit of a more serious episode.

DetailsWerewolves Within
, I have loved the idea that right under the surface of the seemingly civilized, there is a monster clawing to get out and that good people can be monsters in the right circumstances and even more to the point, sometimes monsters look and act like good people.
DetailsBatman: The Long Halloween Part 2
This really is the story of Harvey Dent’s journey into madness. It is a tale of the darkness within him being forced to come out. It is too easy to believe that Harvey went crazy after having acid thrown on half his face creating his alter ego, but Two-Face was always a part of him and just needed a bit of a nudge to come out.
DetailsJungle Cruise
There is no wonder that Jungle Cruise took many elements from Pirates and put them into this film. A fabled cursed treasure, a strong-willed female lead, two different set of villains and lots of action and special effects are all elements that both movie franchises used, and it served them well.
DetailsMasters of the Universe: Revelation
I was hopeful when I first saw the trailer that Kevin Smith, who produced, wouldn’t take another beloved cartoon of mine and ruin it. I was pleasantly surprised!
DetailsFear Street Part 3: 1666
There is also a heavy Faustian theme as well. When life gives you lemons, do you offer the devil lemonade. How far do you have to be pushed, before you sell your soul to get what you want, and does that make you a bad person?
DetailsFear Street Part 2 1978
We have been fed little breadcrumbs in both films that I am assuming will come together in the final chapter. It gives the characters something to do besides just run and scream, trip and fall, or bleed and die.
DetailsBlack Widow
Scarlett’s Natasha is a complicated character trying to make up for all the bad things in her past. Florence as little sister Yelena builds off that as well. She has a great mixture of regret and vulnerability hidden under a tough shell. You can feel her longing to have a family and a normal life, but with just enough whimsy to add some levity to the character.
DetailsFear Street Part One: 1994
I don’t know much about the source material, but I applaud this production for having the heroines be LGBTQ+ and for the budding romance between Kate and Josh who are an unlikely couple in a Hollywood movie. Simon’s pop talk near the end to Josh reinforcing that he is worthy of Kate and not to take her advances as just the heat of the moment, is a good lesson for those who struggle with low self-esteem and added a bit of soul to the film. It also showed a hidden depth that we had not seen in Simon.
DetailsA Quiet Place Part 2
As with the first movie, this film is very intense with several moments of suspense and terror. We take the noise we produce for granted. We are not a quiet race naturally, so to attempt to live without making noise is terrifying.
DetailsThe Tomorrow War
The basic premise is exciting and give a new twist to the “Time Travel” sci-fi genre. It is fun to watch, and the action scenes are intense. The aliens are frightening and creepy and the CGI is well done. The acting is excellent for an action movie with Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski and J.K. Simmons all turning out heart felt performances, although at times I think they go a bit over the top, and there are scenes that feel a bit forced in trying to get the audience to connect with characters instead of letting that happen naturally.
DetailsLoki
Unfortunately, for a lot of people, this act is met with hostility and the fear of this keeps many people locked inside a life that is dark and depressing, with no real chance of love or self-acceptance. I hope that Loki representing his true nature gives others the courage to live their lives honestly and that the truth they share is met with encouragement and love.
