Archive 81: A Must See Fresh Supernatural Mystery

Television ShowsBy Rob PriceJanuary 15, 2022Leave a comment

Archive 81

It isn’t often that a new show captures my attention by combining my love of mysteries with my love of supernatural horror, but Netflix’s new show, Archive 81, not only captured my attention, but kidnapped it and held it hostage

Around the World in 80 Days: The Clock is Ticking!

Around the World in 80 Days (2021-2022)

From the very start of this show, the music lets you know that this is going to be a glorious romp around the world. In addition, the use of the sound of a ticking clock in several scenes, added to the notion that not only is time ticking away on the bet, but that Phileas’ very life has been ticking away too.

Dr. Who: Eve of the Daleks – Countdown to Extermination!

Television ShowsBy Rob PriceJanuary 2, 2022Leave a comment

Doctor Who

With the past episodes having such high stakes, it was nice to get a more fun, lighthearted romp showcasing what Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor does best.  With a kind of manic wit and adventurous spirit, the Doctor runs around trying to make sure everyone survives, and for the most part, succeeds.

Firebite: Something to Sink Your Teeth Into

Television ShowsBy Rob PriceJanuary 1, 2022Leave a comment

Firebite

Firebite is as much a biting criticism of white colonialism (pun intended) and the evils of racism, as it is about hunting blood suckers.

Station Eleven: Much Nothing about Ado

Television ShowsBy Rob PriceDecember 31, 2021Leave a comment

Station Eleven

We don’t really see the riots; we don’t see a lot of people dying. We see crowds at hospitals, and we hear the news on television talking about it. But the episode was really all about introducing the two main characters. Jeevan and Kirstin.

Don’t Look Up: To Close for Comfort

MoviesBy Rob PriceDecember 26, 2021Leave a comment

Don’t Look Up

The casting of this film is amazing, with several Oscar winners and box office draws. But this isn’t “that” type of science fiction movie. This is not Deep Impact or Armageddon. This is a satirical comedy looking at our government, with some very subtle and not so subtle caricatures of people in our current political system.

The Witcher: Season 2: The Truth of Monsters

Television ShowsBy Rob PriceDecember 24, 2021Leave a comment

The Witcher: Season 2

The story has love, laughter, magic, action and tones of swordplay and battles with monsters.  The dialogue is clever and well written and the music adds to the tone of each scene, doing what music is supposed to do and enhance the action and performances of the series.

Scary Little Christmas: Krampus-You Better Watch Out

MoviesBy Rob PriceDecember 24, 2021Leave a comment

Krampus (2015)

This is a horror movie with a conscience and a lesson to learn.  Most horror movies are morality tales, but this one, in particular, attempt to remind us not to lose the hope in our hearts and retain that magic that comes with the season.

The Matrix Resurrections – Take the Blue Pill!

MoviesBy Rob PriceDecember 23, 2021Leave a comment

The Matrix Resurrections

The storyline is interesting, and some aspects of the plot are intriguing and thought provoking, but the script felt convoluted and pretentious. Like a movie that wants to be “deep” but in reality, is shallow, with a lot of glitter on the surface.

Scary Little Christmas: A Christmas Carol (2020)- An Old Tale Told in Dance!

A Christmas Carol (2020)

This gives the impression of a ghostly dream gracefully playing before our eyes. It is extremely theatrical and a bold choice for todays audiences.

Antlers: Hunger of the Wendigo

MoviesBy Rob PriceDecember 19, 2021Leave a comment

Antlers

…the film is also overwhelmingly depressing.  A film needs a balance of highs and lows, comedy and drama, light and dark.  This movie is all lows, drama and dark.
