McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Review: Dark Knights of Steel Batman, A Must Have

McFarlane Toys has had a ton of DC Multiverse releases over the past couple of months and of course, many of them are Batman figures. But before you write off this recent release from Tom Taylor’s elseworlds tale, Dark Knights of Steel, I will go ahead and say it: Yes, you do in fact need another Batman toy.

I’m not the biggest “unboxing” fan so I will give a brief breakdown of the packaging. The box is standard McFarlane Toys design with a cool image of Batman sitting on a throne on the back. Toy collectors who keep the boxes will appreciate the art and the figure looks cool anywhere–even in the box.

Taking Batman out is really where collectors will see their bang for their buck. Averaging $19-$24 at most retailers, the set comes with Batman in his knight apparel, his sword, and the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse stand. A major criticism I have had on the DC Multiverse line is that I wish figures had more hand variations for more dynamic poses. However, in this stance, I am willing to let that slide considering this Batman looks best when he’s armed with his trusty weapon.

As of lately, McFarlane Toys has been getting more creative with the materials in the DC Multiverse lineup. On this figure, the “cloth” is very loose plastic and bends well for different ways the figure is articulated.

The details in the armor and the worn clothing are a nice touch, and for the most part, he looks like he just jumped right out of the series from DC Comics. Knights aren’t exactly jumping cars, so don’t expect this figure to have overly dramatic poses. This is not to say you can’t get really cool positions–but the armor rightfully gets the way from time to time.

I was happy to pick this up and even though I have some reservations. I believe McFarlane Toys can do a really good job with more characters from the Dark Knights of Steel series–and I hope this Batman selling well will entice the company to expand the line.
