Absolute Carnage #3
THE SUMMER OF SLAUGHTER CONTINUES! After the harrowing events at the end of Absolute Carnage #2, Venom and Spider-Man have to deal with the hard truth that not everybody will make it out of this conflict in one piece… if they make it out at all, that is. As Carnage continues to amass strength and allies, Venom and Spider-Man realize that the only way to beat him is to do the same…
This series has become a difficult one to review for the fact that it has already exceeded my expectations for story and art while also maintaining a good balance of capes to horror. This issue keeps up the momentum with a couple unexpected surprises and a glimmer of hope for the heroes.
Cates does a great job in this issue, both showing how the events in this story can affect the larger Marvel universe as well as showing what a brazen and deceitful character Carnage can be. We are given a clear idea of the danger Carnage poses to the Marvel universe as we are shown some of the more powerful heroes in posession of a codex as well as the fact that Carnage has no qualms about appearing in their midst in effort to prevent them stopping his plan.
The art is yet again breathtaking; from the opening scene of Miles being pulled into the darkness as he is overwhelmed by Carnage drones all the way to the big reveal on the final page of the issue. The gloomy and hopeless tone of this story is captured perfectly and the character designs (especially for newly introduced or redesigned characters) are top notch.
This series just keeps getting better and better as we come closer to the conclusion. I cant wait to see how it all ends and to see I’d beautifully depicted by this great creative team.
With each issue this series gets more exciting and terrifying. This issue proves that this newly amped Carnage is not only a threat to Spidey and Venom but to the entirety of Earth-616.
