Review
Absolute Green Arrow #3 finds Dinah continung to track down the identity of the Green Arrow, which leads her to Roy Harper. For Roy in the Absolute universe is that he was a contemporary and associate of Oliver’s. The two met at while shooting arrows at a range and struck up a friendship for a time.
Like Mia, Roy seemed to question Ollie’s association with Jubal before the issues with the child trafficking. Dinah, in her interrogation of Roy, pulls no punches and learns some interesting information in the process. The choice of having Roy’s flash about his relationship with Oliver is told using a distinct red color scheme, playing on the Red Arrow idea, but is done in a way that Oliver’s green clothes, bow, and eyes stand out as a reminder of Oliver’s signature look. This sequence also establishes that Emiko is still Oliver’s sister, but the two are estranged in their relationship.
The issue also name drops Rex Tyler, the original Hourman, and the existence of Miraclo, which Hammond acquired the rights to and used to develop and introduce another billian associated more so with the JSA than with Green Arrow in the regular universe.
The issue is heavy on the exposition, as delivered by Roy, but there is an appearance by The Green Arrow, who is gaining a following from the regular citizen’s of Star City. Unlike the previous issues, the focus is more on expanding the back story and less about trying to unmask the identity of The Green Arrow, which works since it builds the world around Dinah as she works to discover the truth about Oliver and the circumstances surrounding his murder.
Final Thoughts
Absolute Green Arrow #3 is less about who might be the Green Arrow and works on the.backstory and introducing a supernatural element into the mix.
