Comic Watch Absolute Reviews:

From the pages of the Absolute Evil #1 comes I Know What You Did Last Summer for billionaires, Absolute Green Arrow reimagines the Emerald Archer’s mythos into a dangerous, urban horror murder-mystery by Eisner winners Pornsak Pichetshote (Dead Boy Detectives, Infidel) and Rafael Albuquerque (Detective Comics, American Vampire).

Other Comic Watch Absolute Reviews:

At the mercy of Hector Hammond, Black Canary and the Green Arrow Killer finally bear witness to the depraved horrors Hammond has been hiding. But when a horrible sacrifice evens the odds … will Dinah have traded one threat for an even more terrifying danger?

Black Canary and the Green Arrow Killer finally bear witness to the depraved horrors of Hector Hammond in Absolute Green Arrow #5

Review

Absolute Green Arrow #5 continues to delve deeper into Oliver’s sins of the past, inaction, and missed good intentions that led to his assassination in Absolute Evil #1. The issue continues the body horror art introduced in last issue which saw the introduction of this Universe’s Solomon Grundy, the grotesque experiments of Hector Hammond.

Pichetshote does a solid job of of the bait-and-switch seemingly reveal of the identity of The Green Arrow. The introduction of Solomon Grundy last issue definitely ups the stakes and just how formidable and dangerous Hammond is in this universe. The Absolute Oliver Queen continues to be very similar to his main universe counterpart in many ways, except being decisive and outspoken for what he stands for as a public figure.

The story continues to be more so Dinah’s story with the Green Arrow mystery continuing to bubble in the background.  It is safe to say that in this series no one is safe or if they are going to make it to the last page of the issue let alone the next issue or two.

Rafael Albuquerque’s continues to be stellar and shows his range going from human characters, body horror inspired monsters, to the flashback sequences that fill in the gaps, and are differentiated with Maiolo’s colorwork depending whose story is being told.

Given the extension of the series to 12 issues allows for the slow burn of who is behind the Green Arrow mask, but is starting to boarder on being to drawn out to long and hopefully moves faster as the second half of the series unfolds

Final Thoughts

Absolute Green Arrow #5 continues to be a top of the stack read as the slow burn of revealing who is behind the Green Arrow mask, but is starting to boarder on being to drawn out to long and hopefully moves faster as the second half of the series unfolds.
