How far out is the world that's coming? From across the depths of space, the Blackstars are turning their attention towards Earth... and only Tomar Re stands in their way.
Review
Over the past few issues of Absolute Green Lantern, the story and action have ramped up, moving past the events happening on Earth to the interstellar corners of the Absolute Universe; issue #7 is no different.
The concepts that Ewing has established about OA and the different levels, represented by the various colors, coalesce as the next stage of the story arc get laid out in issue #7 after the slow burn of the first four issues, which focused on the events on Earth. The shift from Hal and Jo is a nice palette cleanse,r and Rossmo and Howard’s artwork is just enough different from Lindsey’s to capture the settings on other planets besides Earth.
It is also nice to see some familiar faces in the context of the darker Absolute Universe. Hector Hammond channels the rich melomaniac perfectly, and unique from the Lex Luthor persona in the regular universe (See Absolute Evil for more). Besides familiar Lantern characters like Kilowog, Tomar-Re, and Mogo, who all enter the story, though very different than their counterparts in the normal universe, Ewing does a deep pull with inserting Cameron Chase into the mix.
In this issue that has the most action so far in the series, the storytelling is paced well and the Blackstars and other Lanterns are given a chance to shine and feel like intregal characters that will eventually intersect paths with Jo and Hal.
Final Thoughts
Absolute Green Lantern #7 picks up speed as questions are answered, familiar characters are introduced, and the larger story begins to take shape.
