Review

This is the type of Doctor Strange story I like. It is also great for those who have some unfamiliarity with the character and his history. The psychological element of the story is integral and necessary for the overall plot. This being a stand alone story without any need to know or prerequisite knowledge also makes this story great for the newbie.

We get a good look at how the characters relate to each other. We see the main supporting character and his relationship with the protagonist. That is not all, we get a great backstory for the chief antagonist in this story and how he relates to Doctor Strange. We have enough to care for the characters and what is happening to them throughout the story. We also get to see the full character arc of Doctor Strange as well as a glimpse of his psyche.

The art has an almost painted feel to it which makes it a feast for the eyes. Since this story spans different dimensions and dream states, the art and the lettering makes it easy for follow. It is easy to seethe dream Stephen has with its brighter paler color pallet and the blue lettering. In addition the dream dimension is striking with its ghostly speech bubbles as well as its use of greens, blues and misty backgrounds. The design of the antagonist is also very frightening. It’s power and appearance makes it look like a formidable adversary for the Sorcerer Supreme.

The artistic representation of the magic spells throughout this story is also very striking and the bright hues used in its representation shows the power behind the spells.

Final Thoughts

This is a great story for both the experienced and inexperienced reader.  One does not need to know the minute details of the myths to enjoy and the story is not bogged down with unnecessary exposition.
