Review
Wolverine returns with issue #20 after a ten-week break for the X Lives and X Deaths event. The eponymous issue #20 picks up soon after the ambitious event and finds Wolverine starting a mission of his choosing. It seems pretty straightforward, but there is a little surprise thrown in for him: Deadpool. Though he is not necessarily a mutant, Deadpool is certainly an X-character, so it would make sense why he wants to become an honorary citizen of Krakoa. Personally, Deadpool books are not something I seek out, but this new arc is looking to be a lot of fun and a nice change of pace after the previous event. There can still be high stakes, but having Deadpool in here will ensure it is a blast to read.
Benjamin Percy’s Wolverine captures everything that fans love about the character, so I am really excited to see what he does with Deadpool. Wolverine and Deadpool are two fan-favorite characters, so I have no doubt that Percy will give readers a solid adventure. I really enjoy Adam Kubert’s art on Wolverine books, whether it is just covers or interiors. With Wolverine #20, his Logan looks incredible and I can see that there is going to be a lot of fun action with Deadpool in the coming issues. Frank Martin colored most of the book, with Dijjo Lima coloring pages 9-14. Both artists do an excellent job pairing with Kurbert’s pencils. Both artists capture the grit of the action without losing the “brightness” of Deadpool’s humor. Cory Petit’s lettering has been a constant through most of Percy’s Wolverine books and he doesn’t miss a beat. Something new to Wolverine #20 is the custom corner box on the cover. The Krakoa era of books has all been unified by Tom Muller’s incredible designs, so I was really happy to see the addition of these corner boxes moving into the Destiny of X.
