AGE of X-MAN: X-TREMISTS #2: Forget Love

This book may be a good read for the adolescent who just wants a quick read that may somewhat relate to teenage feelings. This book may even be a good for those who find reading challenging and need a simplistic thought process of each character. Otherwise, some will find Age of X-Man: X-Tremists #2 difficult to keep the reader’s attention, disappointment in character development, and even feelings of the plot being rather pointless.

The Department X is a team that polices others on actions of the heart. They are to uphold the policies of their so-called perfect world. However, without the basics, it’s anything but perfect. All the characters are more like children without necessary personal or professional experiences to hold their current rank. That being said, I do like the connection between blob and Psylocke. In this universe where it is forbidden to “love” and this type of connection between teammates could be catastrophic to all mutant kind as they currently know it to be.

With an awesome team of characters, my expectations may have been to high going into this mini-series. I understand that this is a new world and some characterizations would be different. However, I would like to see more character growth and a better twist to the weak plot. Other writers in the other Age of X-Man mini-series are managing to keep the core being to the characters with a bit of a twist to them. Unfortunately, Leah Williams does not represent that skill in this book.

Artists, Georges Jeanty and Roberto Poggi may be the ones keeping the reader’s attention. Their work is absolutely incredible with such talented details in many areas, except for some facial mishaps. Jim Charalampidis’ coloring is bright and eye catching in the splash pages and each panel adds to Jeanty and Poggi’s artwork.

Overall, rating this book is purely difficult, because it depends on the reader’s expectations and interpretation of storytelling and character build-up. If you are a “fan” of a given character(s) and can keep an open mind, I recommend this book. Otherwise, it may not be for you.
