Review

Author Nick Spencer puts out another fun script this issue. He mixes the perfect balance of action, mystery, comedy, and super-heroics in this issue. It’s a tough balance to combine all these story elements yet still maintain the upbeat light-heartedness of a Spider-Man book, but he makes it look easy. We get a surprise co-star, a surprise villain, and I haven’t even touched on the Spider-Man 2099 stuff. Although, since you brought it up, if you’re at all interested in the 2099 event, be sure and pick this issue up, because it starts here!

Ladies and gentlemen, please give a big, spider-welcome to artist Patrick Gleason!!! Yes, that Patrick Gleason!! Aquaman/Batman/Superman artist Patrick Gleason. It’s weird to say because Gleason is an artist we’ve all been paying attention to for most of this century, but it seems like he’s switched up his style in this issue. You can still tell it’s him, his art just looks a lot less….severe, if that makes any sense. He’s still got the same awesome artistic abilities, though and they really fit this title. He’s a welcome addition to the Spider-Man family.

Final Thoughts

Another installment in this really solid Amazing Spider-Man run. This is one of those "you better not miss it!" issues, because it kicks off a few pretty great storylines.
