Recap

Review

This issue kicks off the big summer Spidey event, “Sins Rising.” Actually, it kicked off last week with Sins Riding Prelude, but this is where the meaty part of the story truly begins. Author Nick Spencer is pretty polarizing, but I gotta hand it to him, he writes a pretty great Spider-Man comic. There are some great Peter Parker scenes this issue, and there’s a big tease of a possible status quo change for Peter’s life, as we get the last character who hasn’t been back into Peter’s life in the last ten years coming back to join the cast. Actually, there’s a butt-load of returning characters this issue, some good, some bad. To my surprise, Spencer pays dividends on a story that was the main focus a couple of issues ago, which is nice for those of us that are in this for the long haul. I don’t even wanna get into the villain of this issue. I’m pretty sure you know who it is if you’ve seen the cover, but that’s not where it ends. Spencer resurrects him with a mission, one he thought he had abandoned and a new power. One that almost made me pee my pants. Okay, okay. I peed a little. Now add to all this a shocking, and I don’t mean “comic book shocking” I mean “throw the comic across the room and jump behind the couch shocking” ending and you have a big blow-out summer fun read-it-outside comic book that you’re gonna want to read at least a couple times before the next issue is out.

The art in this issue is by Mark Bagley. You know what? I don’t even need to say anything else.

Final Thoughts

Buy this, read it in the store (WITH your mask on) because it's too good to wait to get to the car for you to read it. This was SUCH a good issue, I think it's probably the best thing out this week.
