Recap

Review

I don’t want to know what’s in the special sauce. I don’t care what the Colonel’s 11 herbs and spices are. I’m one of the very few people who don’t watch the iTunes extras on movies that I buy digitally. I like not knowing secrets. After all, they’re secrets for a reason. But at this point, I’d love to sit down and interview the author of this book, Nick Spencer. Because he’s either a Doc Brown-like type of guy with a wall to wall chalkboard that has years and years of stories on it, all flowing into and out of other Marvel books and events or he’s bat-sh!t crazy and shouldn’t be allowed out of the house. This issue is a read in the car book. Don’t wait to get home, just read it as soon as you pay for it. It’s THAT good. The best part of this book is that you’re as clueless to what Sin Eater is doing as Spidey is, you don’t have any forewarning, all you can do is react and that’s pretty awesome storytelling.

Unfortunately, the art this issue isn’t quite as good as the writing. Marcelo Ferreira is a very good artist. I just feel that art doesn’t match the story. With a story with this kind of attitude, you want someone whose style is (I’m so sorry I have to say this) grim & gritty, but also real. Ferreira’s art is at times a little exaggerated and that doesn’t really compliment the story here. I think if he’d dial it back just a little, you’d find the perfect match of art and writing. As it is, the art is sometimes distracting and takes your focus other places than where it should be.

Still, this issue is freakin’ great!!

Final Thoughts

Read this with asbestos gloves 'cause it is ON! FIRE! An excellent story that will have you guessing things you don't even realize you're guessing.
