Amazing Spider-Man #66: Cat’s in The Cradle

There is a LOT of information that gets crammed in these twenty-two pages, probably enough for two issues. After Amazing Spider-Man Giant-Sized Special, this is author Nick Spencer’s “fresh start” issue. He quickly sums up most of what’s been going on for the last few months in Amazing Spider-Man but spends the majority of the issue using those endings to create brand-new beginnings, and some of these events are really going to surprise readers of this book. A lot of what I love about this book is the way Spencer tends to weave all the character’s lives in and out of everyone else’s. It’s a bit like real life, not all your friends go through you to do everything sometimes your friends will go out with each other while you’re busy. Watching some of the combinations that Spencer throws together is really entertaining. Plus, the big secret is out Richard Fisk AKA The Rose is back from the dead!!! I have a feeling that even though father and son seem like they’re having a warm and cuddly reunion, sooner or later they’re going to come into conflict. Especially when Richard finds out that his dad is responsible for his mom’s death. That’s usually a sticking point with a lot of families. That and what kind of gravy to have at Thanksgiving. I mean, you’re serving turkey so you should go with yellow gravy, but brown gravy is the better of the two and does go with everything. 

What goes together almost as good as chocolate and peanut butter? Spidey’s classic costume and artist Mark Bagley!!!! Bagley is back this issue and he’s doing his usual fantastic job at making the world of the Marvel universe look enough like our own that we appreciate it and making it look just fantastic enough that it’s a place that we can escape to. Look, you know how good Bagley is, you don’t need me telling you. There are more than a few classic shots in this issue, my one complaint s that Kindred still looks way too much like Mumm-Ra from Thundercats. Aside from that, a phenomenal book, artistically speaking.
