Recap

Review

Boy oh boy! Even in comics, things have a way of sneaking up on you. Take artist Carlos Gomez for instance. He’s usually doing art duties with a couple of other guys, so you’re not 100% sure just what he’s capable of or how his storytelling is different from other artists. That is, until today. He does his very own issue of Amazing Spider-Mand I have to be honest, I never knew he was this good. He’s like, really good. He reminds me of a young Scott McDaniel. Like Green Goblin, early Nightwing Scott McDaniel. If you haven’t read either of those titles, look them up and you’ll see how awesome they are. While Gomez reminds me of an artist from 20 years ago, his work is also very modern and current. There are some pretty important things that go down in this issue and Gomez handles all of them with the degree of seriousness that they deserve. He also puts a nice amount of detail into the “normal life” panels and throws everything into overdrive for the action panels. From the first page to last, this issue is a full-out party to look at. Here’s to more of Gomez on the book!!

Author Saladin Ahmed pulls no punches either. He’s taking an edge-of-your-seat monthly book and cranking it up a notch. Questions that need to be answered for quite a while finally are, Ahmed writes some really good dialogue, and moves the story on to the next phase of its journey. A great chapter in this carefully told story by the writers of this title.

Final Thoughts

Another fantastic issue! I'm constantly surprised at how refreshing and intelligent this change of pace storyline is turning out to be. You should definitely check it out!
