Amazing Spider-Man #83: Doctor, Doctor Gimmie the News…Wait, Maybe Don’t

I was honestly sore after reading this issue. Not because I was sitting weird or anything like that, it was because author and artist Patrick Gleason really put Peter through the wringer. It’s painful to look at, but so damn entertaining. This is another in the “better than it has any right to be” Beyond era, and I know I sound like a broke record, but it’s  WAY past time that you check out this book, I’ve always loved Ben Reilly, so I was onboard from the day that they announced this, but I had no clue as to how good this title would be. Gleason, as part of the “Beyond Trust,” writes a really clever story in this issue. It focuses mainly on Peter and his struggle to get back into fight shape, and him realizing just how far off that is at this point in time, It’s a very relatable story as well. I think a lot of people have unfortunately had a health issue at one point or another, anything from the flu to well, let’s just say worse, and I think each and every one of us has tried to get up and go when we really should’ve stayed in bed and gotten some more rest, so Peter’s fight is relevant to everybody reading it. 

Gleason the artist as just as good as Gleason the writer this issue, he’s actually able to make an issue where a very large part of it takes place in a hospital bed, a great-looking comic! Don’t worry, there is some superhero action here, but it’s the quiet moments in the book that really stood out to me.
