Amazing Spider-Man #85
Welcome back to another issue of greatness by author Cody Ziglar & artist Paco Medina. Doc Ock is pissed that the Beyond Corporation is using his technology as their own and taking credit for it, and with Spider-Man on their payroll, the Beyond Corporation isn’t giving an inch, This issue is chock-full of story, jokes, and intelligence. Ziglar is able to perfectly mix science fiction with solid, super-hero action, and that makes for a very enjoyable comic. One of the many things that I enjoy about his comics is that, even though he knows there’s a recap page before every story, he catches the audience up with what they need to know through the natural dialogue of the characters. Even though this book is weekly if you read a lot of comics like I do, you sometimes don’t remember every single thing about the previous issues, so it’s nice to get a little something to bring those events to the front of your mind. He’s also got a real talent for writing fights. Everyone he’s written has had a purpose, and a logical, definite, ending. There’s no stop during the middle and walking away. He’s a master of resolution.
Paco Medina is an artist’s artist. In this issue, in particular, I can see his influence on the artist of a couple of other books. There’s a lot of superheroing in this issue, and it all looks really great, I can’t say why, but you can tell that Medina has some serious fun drawing this issue and his enthusiasm is extremely contagious. You’re really going to enjoy this issue.
Another issue of superhero action on a grand scale! Cody Ziglar knows how to tell a story and with Paco Medina on art duties, they make for a winning combination. Pick this up and for the love of God, put it on your pull list!!
