Amazons Attack #2: What Happens in Manhattan…

One of the best things to come out of DC’s Future State event was Yara Flor’s Wonder Girl who’s own comic series got cut short. Thankfully, this issue makes her center focus, and that’s just the cream on top. Campbell’s story is riveting and action packed, moving interestingly enough for a miniseries.

After last issue, the Amazons find themselves in New York, ambushed by the NYPD. The three amazons and Mary Marvel are being hunted down, wanted as terrorists for crimes they never committed. Who set them up? That’s the mystery of the series. This ambush leads them one step closer, as even the police are attacked by a strange man who hurls a piece of golden fruit at the officers’ feet. The policemen are driven mad and one even tries to run over the heroes but to no avail. Nubia then explains that was a Golden Apple of Discord, belonging to the goddess of chaos, and how strange it was to see it control people.

Mary also notices the man that threw fruit had magi-tech on him, meaning none other than Dr. Sivana is involved in whatever’s going on. Dr. Sivana is a Shazam villain whose known for building odd technology and using it for non-ethical reasons.

Back to Nubia and the Goddesses’ Apple, she grabs a hold of it, inducing an odd hallucination or dream where she sees Hippolyta. Hippolyta accuses her of destroying everything, and after she tries reassuring the deceased figure, a cloaked character states, as a fact, that Nubia has led the Amazons to their demise.

The book’s part of the story ends on Yara Flor taking the high stage, with the characters being taken to Akahim. Yara mentions that Anahi said that by uniting the three other women, they could stop the death of the Amazons, and she was planning on asking her how. Before she can even ask about the prophecy, she finds Anahi in a horrible state, and that’s when Anahi is certain that they’re all going to die.
