Aquaman #41: Atlantis has Fallen

Atlantis has risen from the water and the families of Atlantis bathe in the surrounding ocean. While they play, a mysterious substance appears and swallows and transforms the Atlanteans it touches. A child watches his father mutate into a beast and attacks him. Suddenly, Mera appears and commands everyone to retreat into the city. As she takes care of civilians inside the city, Murk is outside, keeping the monsters from getting inside and telling Mera that all of the lower tribes have fallen. But the water splashes up and touches his leg, and Mera listens as he too mutates.

Mera attempts to comfort those inside the walls and contacts Batman, who is monitoring the situation due to still being in a cast. He tells Mera that Aquaman has not been seen or heard from since his mission to the Arctic. As Mera tries to find out what caused the flood, Batman shows her the alien fleet that lies above New York.

Where every other city has fallen, Atlantis stands due to Meras aqua kinetic abilities holding back the flood. Mera and Mother Cetea prepare to evacuate Atlantis but an explosion disrupts them. As they gather themselves, Mera recognizes that she lost her concentration of the force field and the flood sweeps through the chamber. Mera, however, had enough time to protect her and Cetea, who unfortunately is affected by the flood and transforms. As the final Atlantean still normal, she takes to the highest tower in Atlantis and breaks out the one man who can help- Orm the Ocean Master!
