Peter Parker and Spider-man have split, allowing each to focus on their lives for once. While Pete goes on a much needed double date with MJ (and his unwilling roommate and his ex) Spidey takes on the fearsome tri sentinel!
After a meeting with Curt Connors Peter is made aware that splitting up split certain attributes, there’s no telling how much of the original Peter’s mind the identical duo have. Where does the line between brilliance and idiocy lie? Right and wrong? Power and responsibility?
Review:
A very interesting issue of Spider-man, I’m really interested to see what else divided with the Peters, I hope they get into that a little more into it, so far these 3 issues have been pretty jam-packed full of content. Nick Spencer is killing it as far as Spidey is concerned I really feel like the tone he’s hitting is the Spidey I grew up with. The domestic feeling main story featured with the double date is really fun, although it seems like Peter hasn’t told MJ about the split, which is pretty weird as it seems like the kind of thing she should know.
Spidey fighting the tri sentinel is pretty funny, I’ve been reading a bunch of Larsen/ Micheline era Spidey lately (actually looking it up I think I have tri sentinels first appearance) and he pops up a lot in that run at first following acts of vengeance and later in an awesome arc where Spidey teams up with Nova. I’m curious if he manages to beat him straight up since the first time he was captain universe and the second time as I mentioned he needed help from Nova.
The notion of Peter’s abilities and knowledge splitting is interesting, I’m curious how deep the split goes, core notions sure but what about thoughts and ideas? They showed that Peter was seemingly less intelligent following the split, and Spidey seems really flippant and careless. It is weird that one of them got all the powers and one of them got all the responsibility. (haha)
The pencil art by Ryan Ottley is excellent, he draws the tri sentinel excellently and the fight with him is really fantastic, detailed and dynamic, although his faces on out of costume characters can appear off-model at times. Honestly, anyone who read invincible (you should) should be very familiar with Ottley’s style, which is unique and excellent, very well suited to Spidey.
This issue is a bit uneventful compared to the first 2 which may be symptomatic of mid-arc slump but does feel fairly organic so it could just be the way the arc is playing out.

Really fun start to this new Spider-man series, glad to be reading it and looking forward to more, if nothing else than to figure out what the heck that b story from the first issue was about because that was insane! Eagerly awaiting next issue!
