Assorted Crisis Events #2

Recap
Time is having a crisis. Mingling in the red-light district, you can find actual cavemen, medieval knights, and cyborg soldiers on leave from World War IV. Victorian debutantes amble their way into cell phone stores, confused and bewildered (what is a data plan?). On their way to work, bleary-eyed commuters get trapped in time-loops, assaulted by alternate-reality versions of themselves, and try to avoid post-apocalyptic wastelands. And LOOK: the 3:15 bus just took a wrong turn... into the neolithic era.
Rising stars Deniz Camp and Eric Zawadzki and Eisner-winners Jordie Bellaire and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou are proud to present Assorted Crisis Events, an ongoing, zig-zagging anthology series about the compromised clicks of our clocks-full of one-shot stories both beautiful and ugly, tragic and redemptive, surreal and somehow all too familiar.

Review
Assorted Crisis Events #2 is the second installment of this mind-warping journey through a reality that gets bloody. The story is very non-linear fashion that is connected by the theme of blood and life ad death.
The story and art is not for the squeamish but the different threads such as the meat processing plant, the birth of the central character, along with other scenes are handled tastefully and constructed to build the story, ot soley for shock value. The theme of the story is allegorical with subtle overtones of current political topics.
The page layout and colorwork continue to be top-notch and push the boundaries of the minimal color palette used. There is also a nice transition from the cover to the first page of the story, as the cover feels like a bonus page of the story. The creative team also employ an interesting gutter work as blood flows down the page as the story progresses.
While these issues of the series are supposed to be single, self-contained stories, there are a few subtle instances that have continued into this issue such as the phone app that warns of time anomanlyies and the old, homeless-looking man who is holding the “Out Of Time, ” it will be very interesting to see if this character plays a larger role in why these assorted Crisises and time seems thin.
Final Thoughts
Assorted Crisis Events #2 does not disappoint in the sophomoric issue which works on many levels and uses both words and art to tell a great story.
