Recap

Review

Here we are again with Atomic Victory Squad #3 and it is action-packed from start to finish. Starting with possibly my new favorite cover in the world of comics. Invincibull is adorning the cover for issue 3 in all his utter gloriousness covered in blood with such a look on his face that simply states I’m taking any of your shit today. And he doesn’t. With his never give up or give in attitude he is becoming one of my favorite characters in comics.

Following in the hilarious footsteps of issues 1 and 2, issue 3 picks the ball up and runs with it at breakneck speed. Lowell Dean continues to write with such importance that you cannot help but become engrossed in what is happening on the pages. Whether it is a quick in and out reference of the current state of immigration or revealing that the only way to kill a giant monster is through their undercarriage you realized you laughed at one and then went back to read the other and give a nod of acceptance a wink of the eye. That is one reason why I think that these books are more than just funny and lighthearted. With issues 1-3 there are heartfelt messages dealing with current events mixed in with ethical situations that make you sit back and think a little.

We have our first big plot twist with this issue. I hate spoilers so I will not be putting them here. Instead, I will simply tip my hat to Lowell Dean and simply say…well done! I did not see that coming and having read this issue multiple times I still smile and shake my end as if I am reading it for the first time. With regard to Invincibull and She-Girl…I want more and with Gary…I need more. Those two elements have really grabbed me garnered my interest and I can’t wait to see more.

Once again, we have come to the point in the review where I rant and rave about this creative team and just how remarkably well they work together. Some might read this and think I’m playing up to the creators of the book because I’m reviewing, etc, etc. NOT THE CASE. Atomic Victory Squad’s story may not be for everyone, and I get that, however, show me another book on the shelves that has the complete package of writing, art, color, lettering, and continues to hold interest in its readers.

Final Thoughts

If you have been reading along with these reviews you know I sound like a broken record by this point and that’s good because hopefully I have convinced you to read Atomic Victory Squad and become just possessed with it as I have become. I hope this series keeps going for a very long time.
