Review
Ross’ attack on the world has begun, and the Avengers and their allies have arrived on time to stop him. However, when Colton is stopped from dealing with the situation permanently, a question is posed whose answer could have ramifications for the entire world.
Avengers Armageddon #2 trades in its prose for action that go around, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have anything to say. There are some very interesting questions posed here about the true nature of Marvel’s superheroes and their real impact on their world. The problems are that these questions have been posed before, and I am honestly not confident in editorial following through with allowing Zdarsky to answer or ponder those questions. That being said there are still some interesting things to say.
Zdarsky uses Colton in this issue to actively confront the effectiveness of the Avengers and their allies. He’s an outsider, so his view of the supposed heroes not really doing anything is something that gives Tony pause but its also something he’s been confronted before in BOTH Civil War events. Zdarsky is clearly using Colton and even Ross to an extent as a greater mouthpiece for his critique of Marvel’s heroes, but it’s hard to see right now to see if this will bear fruit.
Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar’s art is great from start to finish with some stunning action set pieces and details. The battle between Colton and Ross is fittingly destructive and the quieter moments are also given a chance to breathe.
Final Thoughts
Avengers Armageddon #2 is a step up from the initial outing and escalates the conflict in a believable way. There are questions to be answered, and hopefully the creative team is given the time to explore them.
