Recap

Internal conversations happen all the time, when we are driving, when we are cooking, when we are in the shower. Arguably the time that we pounder the universe is most often in the shower. Hawkeye is no different, he has conversations just as we do, and the only difference is he is doing it during battle. Not just any battle but a God Killing Battle against Mother of Night; Nyx, which proves to be costly.

Review

Va Nee Gast aka Voyager watches from The Far Shore, Challenger’s prison. As she watches Gods and Goddess fall in battle against the Mother of the Night. Zeus had trapped her, but when the Earth was stolen (In the events of Last Years Avengers No Surrender) the planet went dark, freeing Mother of Night, Nyx.

Voyager questions if she should go help blaming herself of these events that have unfolded. By doing so, she would leave Challenger unguarded. However she cannot stand by and allow Earth to fall, she goes to assemble the Avengers (seen in the last issue). The battle continues to rage on, Wanda maybe blind as Hawkeye checks on her, Hulk and Hercules attempt to take her out, but to no avail. Voyager and Vision join the battle taking their best shots.

Perhaps the one emotion that can destroy us is not sadness, love, but Despair. Mother of Night has a small Army; one of the members can create feelings of Despair. Hawkeye has an internal conversation while on the battlefield, which quickly because a voice of despair, feeling worthless, no chance of being any help, he is just a guy with a bow and arrows.

Spectrum and Vision take a shot, followed by Hercules showing a small weakness in her. The battle continues as Nyx captures Voyager. The others are teleported out. Hawkeye wakes up in the hospital. He realizes he is missing fingers. He sits back and thinks of what has unfolded. Hulk appears soon after wanting to settle things since they are now alone.

Final Thoughts

This Avengers series is what everyone should be talking about. Avengers No Road Home is writing at its best. The three writers that work on this event appear to work perfectly together. In this particular issue, the internal monologue with Hawkeye is great thought-provoking writing. How Nyx and her Army is drawn is especially creepy, which works perfectly. You are never really sure where each issue is going to go until the end. You are often left with Oh My Cheese, did that really just happen. I am giving this book a 10 out of 10. Art is stunning. The writing is stellar. I cannot wait for the next chapter (Next week).
