Review

I have never been a fan of horror comics; however, this particular comic, while outside my normal wheelhouse, has grabbed my attention. Cullen Bunn has brought the ideas of a murderous cult and powers into a whole new category, and I mean gory. The Faithful have found Regan and Hannah and are looking to complete the sacrifices necessary to bring Chimera back. Regan is but a vessel. Vanessa is but a vessel, per The Faithful. Chills just thinking of the chant for The Faithful.

Cullen Bunn has succeeded with giving you the creeps from the cult, and it wouldn’t have been portrayed more beautifully than Jonas Scharf and Alex Guimaraes give you. It’s dark and vibrant. You can’t help but enjoy the scenery in each panel. You get the feeling when you read it that the fight isn’t over. But who are they really fighting but themselves? Barret seems to be at the center of the conflict, and I am looking forward to seeing him fall hard. A twist of manipulation has me not liking him even more. Hopefully, that will come sooner rather than later. He can carry the story through deceit only so far. Everyone knows almost everyone dies in horror stories.

However, if you’re not into horror or cults, it could easily turn you off, especially without understanding The Chimera or the purpose of The Faithful. To what end will it go is the question. This storyline will have an end, and I think that should be soon. Carrying on with the trail of dead bodies and no consequences is a little unbelievable for me. Even though the story starts out is rather enticing. Where will the story lead and who will survive?

Final Thoughts

Basilisk #10 is a continuation of a fantastic horror story with potential, but there may not be enough to maintain its longevity. I picked it up because of the Title. And the story and artwork intrigued me to keep going. But at a certain point readers may no longer be interested.
