Review

Between Batman and Robin #6 and the annual that was released just a few weeks ago, fans are getting their fill of great Batman and Robin stories. This issue is one of the most delightful issues of the series and the Batman book that readers have eagerly awaited or have been missing. Joshua Williamson did a lot of great work in Robin, which seems to have made quite a few new fans of Damian, so it is only natural that elements from that series carry over to Batman and Robin, including all of the great character development. Issue #6 has a really fun callback to a character from Robin that fans will be thrilled to see. Hopefully, the payoff in the next issue is worth the wait. This issue marks the end of the two-issue stint for Nikola Cižmešija and Rex Lokus on art and coloring duties respectively. Both artists bring a playfulness to the series that is such a great fit for Damian’s character.

Something that sets Batman and Robin apart from other Batman titles is that the father-and-son relationship comes first and foremost. A large portion of the series sees Bruce and Damian out of costume and it has been quite refreshing. With Batman and Robin, Williamson is delivering qualities that are missing in other Batman titles. Readers are getting a Batman who smiles and a Bruce who fistbumps his son while complimenting his artistic endeavors. While Damian might not be a lot of people’s favorite Robin, the character has been around for eighteen years. With no mansion and Alfred still being dead, this might be as back to basics as we get for the time being.

Final Thoughts

Batman and Robin #6 is an absolute blast to read with some fun action and fantastic art. Joshua Williamson continues to deliver great character development for Bruce and Damian and he seems to be having a blast doing so. Nikola ?ižmešija and Rex Lokus were such a great addition to the series and would be such a great fit moving forward, but it will be good to have Simone Di Meo back next issue.
