Review
Josh Williamson is doing a lot of great things in Batman and Robin #7. Damian isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but thanks to his work like on Robin, Damian is gaining a fanbase and it is about time. This issue does a few interesting things, for one it splits Batman and Robin up. Williamson continues to bring in elements from Robin, with this issue featuring a lot of Flatline. There is a fun moment where Batman gives his blessing to Robin and Flatline going off into the night together referencing that he has been known to go off into the night with a known criminal with Batman even cracking a smile. Williamson has included wholesome moments between father and son in every issue of the series and they have all been a blast to see.
Batman and Robin #7 marks the return of artist Simone Di Meo, though he has consistently done the covers of every issue. Giovanna Niro is a wonderful addition as a colorist and does a great job balancing the flashiness and brightness of Di Meo’s style. Di Meo is delivering spectacular work with this series and is a great fit for a character like Damian. A past criticism has been that the style doesn’t translate as well when Bruce and Damian are out of their suits and during day scenes, which is a shame because those have been the highlights of the last two issues. However, the majority of this issue took place at night and had some great action so it is hard to complain. Plus, by splitting up Batman and Robin, Di Meo and Niro have twice the action to deliver and that is a win for fans.
Final Thoughts
Batman and Robin #7 is a solid issue and seems to have found its footing in the last few issues. Williamson is putting a lot of effort into growing Damian as a character as well as the father/son relationship between Damian and Bruce.
