Review
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest continues to be one of the best books on shelves today. The series has consistently delivered on all fronts, especially art-wise. Batman and Superman are two of the most iconic characters of all time, so giving readers an entire series focusing on the two can be a tall order. With Batman / Superman: World’s Finest #22, Batman and Superman attempt to confront and save Boy Thunder, now Thunderman, from Gog. It’s rare for writers to revisit older work and successfully expand on it. Mark Waid has done such a good job bringing some of his contributions to the DC Universe out of the toybox without feeling dated or forced. This isn’t a greatest hits tour, but skillful storytelling that seamlessly weaves together iconic stories like Kingdom Come with the current status quo of Batman and Superman and what Waid and company have been doing with World’s Finest.
A true highlight of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest undeniably lies in the artistic talents of Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain. The duo has knocked it out of the park with every issue they’ve worked on together and consistently delivered some of the year’s best work. This issue is packed with action featuring so many characters from the Kingdom Come universe which features some iconic character designs. The majority of the designs come from Alex Ross’ original work on Kingdom Come, but Mora does such an incredible job working in his own style with these iconic designs. Together, Mora and Bonvillain have remarkable synergy and are the perfect artist and colorist team for Waid’s writing.
Final Thoughts
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #22 continues to be a delight to read and one of the best books on shelves today. Between Waid’s writing and the art from Mora and Bonvillain, there is something to love for all fans, new and old.
