Review
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #8 is a gorgeous issue with a lot of fun moments, but I’m still not sold on Boy Thunder, though the name is very clever. The character reminds me a little bit of Bendis’ Naomi, which isn’t a bad thing. It’s really hard to make a new character stick, but I’m not even sure if that is Mark Waid’s plan. Nezha from the first arc is playing a significant role in Waid’s Batman vs. Robin, so who knows if we will see Boy Thunder outside of this arc. His interactions with the Titans and Kara were the highlights of the issue.
This issue mostly focuses on Superman and Boy Thunder, so we don’t see Batman and Robin in action for the most part, but everyone looks incredible. I especially love the classic look of Batman’s suit. It’s clear that Dan Mora is having a blast drawing this series. I’m continued to be blown away by how well Bonvillain’s colors work with Mora’s art. There were some great creative choices in both art and colors in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #8. One example is Mora’s stellar depiction of the void that Superman and Batman go into to search for this issue’s villain, The Key. There are also several sequences where Bonvillain’s colors absolutely steal the show. Overall, I enjoyed this issue a lot. The creative team really does seem like they’re having a blast.
