Recap

Review

Black Cat #2 knows what it is. A Super heroin comic that’s part of the Marvel universe and also part of the big “Winter event,” King in Black. Both things are given the attention that they deserve not demand, and believe me, there’s a really big difference. Last issue was the story of just what Felicia was doing to get herself clear of this King In Black business while trying desperately to make some much-needed money by committing a couple of jewel heists,  This issue, the King in Black is a major part of the story, but it naturally transitions into something pretty different that I’m really looking forward to reading more about. Author Jed MacKay is just plain awesome sometimes. He’s definitely one to keep your eye on because before long, he’s gonna be doing a lot of work on some really important titles. He’s got a special talent for writing comics that are both superhero-centric yet aren’t the tired, same old standard good guy vs bad guy stories. As with the first issue, MacKay throws his trademark humor (that’s actually funny) in generously along with plenty of action, some mystery, and a splash of suspense all making the recipe for a really good comic.

Artist C.F. Villa is easily becoming one of my favorites in an era where 85% of artists work looks the same, and there’s only three artists of note: Your favorite artist, the artist you ran into at a con that was really nice to you, and third, every other artist, But Villa is a name that you’re going to be hearing a lot more of in the future, as his work has just kept getting better and better, This issue he really gets to play in a playground that really doesn’t have any rules, and Villa doesn’t disappoint, He creates some really unique scenery that I really recommend you don’t miss it,

Final Thoughts

The second issue is just as good as the first, and I have complete confidence that future issue that will be even better,
