Review
The creative team for Black Cloak unleashes another great installment to this ever-growing story. Thompson starts with Essex finding out more about her past through talking to her Father and her Brother. In this encounter she is able to get to get to know the two and grows to like them. With Essex being an incredibly great detective it shouldn’t be surprising to see her discovering her father’s identity and it shows her skill.
Shortly after that interaction, the Detective Duo is instantly on their way to infiltrate a party where they hope to find the answer they are looking for. This plan hatched up by Essex is both clever and pretty dangerous, but mainly clever. Pax adds great comedic exchange in scenes to follow.
When one answer comes to light, more questions are quick to follow and that is certainly the case for the pair as they stumble upon a new secret Lab! A room filled to the brim of small scared animals.
McClaren is able to showcase one of the funniest moments of the detective duo in oddly shaped disguises. With how out of place and bulky the outfits are, it’s incredible they didn’t stand out to others around them. Seeing their serious demeanor while wearing those clothes is a highlight of the issue to break away from the serious mystery surrounding them. McClaren continues to give so much life through the use of color. Carey nicely uses their eye of lettering to help bring the style of the series to life. This series certainly has a certain vibe and style to it and it’s beautiful to see a creative team develop that.
Final Thoughts
This creative team continues to build and build on the world that Black Cloak has to offer for readers. This issue itself dives more into what secrets and questions are plaguing the mind of the Protagonist.
