Last issue, the Imperials switched sides in mid-fight. Manifold showed up as we learned that N’Jadaka knew the Maroon’s plan and there is hell to pay! However, the bombshell of the issue: N’Jadaka’s heir, his very own daughter has been taken by these rebels. And, there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Review
Black Panther #11 continued last issues’ excitement as it consistently adds to this Marvel’s mythos. Ta-Nehisi Coates and Kev Walker brilliantly reimagines these characters’ core traits as they battle new circumstances with the felling of familiarity. We see Princess Zenzi unleashing the power within and there’s no time for games. The amount of divine authority Zenzi commands via the possession the Wakandan Panther god, Blast, may take you by surprise.
Zenzi/Blast puts the Maroons in reality check. N’Jadaka is on the level of the gods and they are not worth his time. Manifold also has some bomb shells for our favorite rebels. Her recalls some memories…from the Wakanda of Earth! Zenzi then reveals that the memories of all Wakandans lie within the spirit world of Djalia. Zenzi has a plan to restore the names to the nameless and restore what was once stolen.
Coates and Walker has woven so much culture into this story. I applaud the amount of research it took to create such a sci-fi storyline that includes Marvel’s Wakandan legends. Walker along with Marc Deering consistently demonstrates the high quality artwork in each panel. Java Tartaglia’s coloring amplifies the artwork to electrify the readers’ imagination.
Final Thoughts
There’s a lot going on in Black Panther #11, but it’s all easy to follow and much of it fills you with hope and uncertainty.
