Review

Black Panther #14, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Daniel Acuna continue build our excitement as we process the new twist with a battle threatens T’Challa’s primary goal. The King of Wakanda has finally made contact with his family and Queen Mother Ramonda informs T’Challa how their country has thrived. However, there is more dire need of assistance as the universe has been threatened.

After learning this detail, Ororo jumps in to lend a hand to her husband and his fellow refugees. Personal note; I find it quite sad that too many humans become so selfish that they are only willing to help another when the “issue” hits home. Coates has exceptionally incorporated this topic that we see often and too uncomfortable to discuss. Frequently, when individuals are contemplating assistance to others, they undergo a cost-benefit analysis calculating the personal rewards of helping, as well as the psychological and physical drawbacks of offering help. Shuri is very intelligent; however, there are many lessons to be learned. As tension builds the communication has abruptly been caught off and T’Challa is pulled back into action where he is needed most!

Black Panther #14 employ some of Coates’ best work in world building as he incorporates science fiction elements to drama and psychodynamics. The cliffhanger has me at the edge and excited to see how the next issue will feed our imagination. Acuna, what can I say that hasn’t been already established? Outstanding art and coloring that makes the reader feel they are watching an action thriller! The blues, purples, orange…the details of emotions, the action sequences, the flow between panels, and page after page… just AWESOME!

Final Thoughts

Coates’ and Acuna powers up the reader’s synapse that sparks the imagination of science fiction to the next level of one of best Marvel Icons!
