Black Panther #5: A King’s Path Walked Alone

Five years since the death of Commander N’Yami and M’Baku has made many tough decisions in leading the Maroons to safety. Time has come for T’Challa to deal with N’Yami’s death and constant battle with the Empire. Nakia is here to give T’Challa that kick in the ass of encouragement to embrace his purpose as he walks the path that Commander N’Yami knew he was meant to follow.

Ta-Nehisi Coates’ talent continues to shine in Black Panther #5. His storytelling is mentally exhilarating as T’Challa battles his inner-self and purpose in this life. Using philosophical thought process with the act of debating, Coates allows the reader to “wear the shoes” of the characters. There are powerful pages that have no words, but Coates directs the reader through the great artwork by Daniel Acuna. The depth to the silent sequences is stunning with emotions. Acuna’s choice of colors radiates through the exciting action-packed artwork that conveys motion and fluently tells the story without words.
