Black Panther #7: A Small Step Closer

The pace of Black Panther #7 seems deliberately slow, which is good for some readers whereas may lose the attention of others. Ta-Nehisi Coates is taking his time on describing different perspectives form the major characters as the “Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda” arc becomes more apparent.

Emperor N’Jadka is quite pleased that his young daughter is interested in learning about the astronomical kingdom that her beloved father rules. This story is not as simplistic as it may seem as young Zenzi’s connection to Manafold may expose what looks like as mutant abilities. Meanwhile, the Maroon rebels, led by M’Baku, abduct a key imperia technologist. They seem to intend to use him as a way to recover their lost memories.

Coates continues to implode much of the Black Panther mythos as he articulates the past to this futuristic tale. Black Panther #7 is slow and no action, but provide many subtle hints of the direction of this galactic tour. Personally, I do not care for the artwork in this issue compared to the previous six. The facial details seem a little cartoony at times. Though, the cover by Paolo Rivera and Daniel Acuna is absolutely beautiful.
