Review

This is gonna come off as bad, but I’m really surprised at how much I genuinely like this book every month. It’s been a roller coaster ride of action and adventure from the very first issue, and this issue we finally get to take a bit of a breather, but this is comic books, and that only lasts for about a page and a half. Writer Jim Zub continues his hot streak with yet another action-packed issue. Jim. Dude. What did Black Panther and his amazing friends do to you? Again, he’s got these guys scrambling to save their own butts when Avengers Mountain gets attacked. AND every single Avenger is busy except for like 5. Hey, it probably takes ALL the Avengers to go and stock up on toilet paper and canned food with that coronavirus thing going around. Zub takes what some would call “D-List” heroes, surprises them with a credible threat and turns on the action. This story isn’t exclusive to comics, and it’s not new to comics, either, but there’s a part of all of us that roots for the underdog and this is a classic underdog story. One that’s pretty well told, to boot.

Lan Medina rocked the (undersea) world on Aquaman, Fables and so much more. He brings his uber-talented pencils to this book and honestly, he’s at the top of his game. I’m not giving anything away, but the villains this issue are pretty awesome, and he makes them look even more so. Not to mention a last page reveal that’s incredible, but a little bit shorter than I remember. Medina is a great visual storyteller, and it really shows this issue.

Final Thoughts

Another exceptional issue. Just when I expect Zub and Medina to cool the pacing of the book a little, they actually turn it up.
