Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #2: It Runs in the Family

Danny Lore explores the determination that Brielle has in her going along with a plan to continue to sneak out hunting down vampires. With the help of her new friend Whitney, Brielle convinced her mom to let her “study” with her which was a cool exchange to see. I really enjoy the choice of her mom being well aware of the supernatural stuff in her life as this is a great step away from the parental figure being completely unaware that is seen in other forms of similar supernatural stories. 

It’s incredibly unfortunate for Brielle to quickly discover her new friend Whitney has in fact set up a trap for her and from the start had no intentions of becoming friends with her. Brielle is in a period of her life where she wants to connect with others who understand what she is experiencing and for someone to create a façade to trick her, it’s very sad to see for her. Brielle expressed excitement along with curiosity in the potential of this connection. I hope she is able to find more friends going forward who will be there to understand her struggles. 

Darboe and Peter make a great duo on the artwork as they absolutely help in bringing this character to life. The use of facial expressions and body language in the art adds a fun dynamic to the cast. The use of dark and bright colors is smartly placed throughout the issue. 

We finally get the exciting moment of Blade and Brielle finding each other, although in a fun comic style it’s not in the most fun way. Although, given that Brielle is losing control her father is possibly the best person to find her and I’m looking forward to seeing how he is able to help guide her.
