Review

In a powerful one-shot style issue, Bloodshot #0 takes a deep dive into what motivates Bloodshot to the absolutely crazy $#%! he does in order to fight for those who need him.

With Marc Laming coming onboard for some explosive visuals, Bloodshot #0 proves to be an issue that any fan simply must read. Seeley is going to some really exciting places with the mission we find Bloodshot on and in this issue, we are able to get a bit of insight into what is pushing him forward. Human trafficking is a theme that runs right to the core of Bloodshot and his very origins with Project Rising Spirit and the creative team explores this impact quite well.

While there is certainly plenty of intense action to satisfy fans of the character, there is also an emotional story at work that grounds the consequences of what Bloodshot is doing. It’s a wonderful issue to give context to the overarching narrative, but it doesn’t forget to tell a complete story either. You can jump into this issue anytime and enjoy everything it has to offer.

The visuals help to bring out all of the emotional moments of the story, especially Bloodshot’s turmoil with his conflicting duality, contrasting his humanistic drive with the capabilities of his technology. We see him struggling with control and what that even means for him, but we also see him putting those thoughts behind him and fighting for others. Laming pulls all of these emotions off in the visuals with magnificent colors from Dalhouse, resulting in a book that will stick with you long after reading.

With some light shed on Bloodshot’s motivations in the ongoing series and just an all around enjoyable one-shot story, Bloodshot #0 proves to be well worth picking up, whether you’ve been a longtime reader or are just wanting to jump in!

On a side note, the cover appears to give credit to Booth and Corona (from the ongoing series) rather than Laming, hopefully it’s corrected in further publications!

Final Thoughts

In a powerful one-shot filled with explosive visuals, Bloodshot #0 proves to be an issue that any fan of the character simply must read.
