Blossoms 666 #2 (of 5): The Game’s Just Getting Started

The competition for the title of Antichrist escalates in Blossoms 666 #2 as Cheryl and Jason Blossom are introduced to a challenge nobody saw coming.

While this issue is mostly focused on delving into the newest mystery in Riverdale, the true highlight comes in the form of multiple dark revelations. First, is the insidious reveal of the town Sheriff’s devotion to the dark lord. His protection during the Blossom twins’ competition will undoubtedly prove valuable in the very-near future. The second is Ethel’s tribute in the woods that she is so ashamed of. The satanic shrine is a true moment of horror in the issue and provides excellent perspective for the seriousness of the topics being handled.

The strength of this issue, and the series so far, is in the ability to capture a classic Archie Comics aesthetic and provide a sometimes shockingly horror-based influence to the overall story. The tone sets the perfect groundwork for all of the fast paced and interesting character developments that make this an enjoyable issue.

The real surprise in Blossoms 666 #2 is the introduction of Julian Blossom, the twins’ older brother and heir to the Infernal Throne. His reveal throws a wrench into Cheryl and Jason’s plans, but it also opens their competition up to potentially much more grand schemes. It could prove to be a twist that really kicks off the fight for the title of Antichrist!

With Betty next on the twins’ victim list, it looks like Archie, Veronica and Jughead will have to figure out what’s going on if they hope to help…and quick!
