Recap

We pick up right where we left off with Carol and Ove going at it, while the future resistors are battling en masse on the Enchantress’s force bubble with an unconscious Magik. Carol is still super Binary charged, and Amora & Ove use Sora to break Magik’s psi shields to learn how to send Ove back. The Enchantress sacrifices her life essence to send Ove to the past, and reveals that she knew how big of a monster Ove is, but she’s still his mother. The resistors celebrate the new world now that Ove is no longer terrorizing it. Carol’s returns home but only after a selfless, yet emotional sacrifice, only to return home. As she recounts her experiences, she sacrifices another piece of her life for someone who might or might not exist.

Review

Kelly Thompson has really poured her energy into portraying Carol Danvers as a flawed character, whose inner strength makes her perceived through the many struggles she’s put through. Her character work on Carol’s supporting cast, especially with the relationship between Carol & Jess (Spider-Woman) is equally superb. Her development of the two is probably one of the most organic and genuine relationships in comics today, and passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors, too!

Lee Garbett’s art has really shined on his run with Captain Marvel, and it hit a zenith in quality on this arc. The character designs are fresh and not overly exploitative, and the environment is crisp, and rich.  Unfortunately he’s leaving with this issue, as well as cover artist, Jorge Molina. But I can’t wait to see what Jacobo Camagni does on the title.

Final Thoughts

Carol fights like she always fights, yet sacrifices her own happiness with hopes for the future.
