What You Need to Know:
Matt Murdock is Daredevil, and he is also the Deputy Mayor of New York City. When Wilson Fisk appointed Attorney Matt Murdock, a veritable thorn in his side, to be his Deputy Mayor, he had no idea that the laws of succession had been altered. Then after a brutal attack at a Central Park Rally, Fisk was nearly killed by the Hand Ninjas. Luckily Steven was there to tell the Police Commissioner that the previous administration had changed the rules and that Matt Murdock was the new mayor of New York City.
After a brief escape from police custody, Matt assumed his position. He then fired Wesley, Fisk’s assistant and chief of Staff, and released the incarcerated Superheroes (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Spiderman, Misty Knight and Echo) to protect the city from the relentless attacks from the Hand.
Finally, the Inhuman terrorist The Muse (literally he was an Inhuman, come on this is a Marvel Book) who was lashing out at the city with his murals, was confronted by Blindspot. This was very significant since Sam (Blindspot) had lost his eyes to the Muse in a fight they had before. Sam defeated The Muse by invoking the Beast’s powers that had restored his eyesight and thus summoning the Hand to New York in the process.
What You’ll Find Out:
Matt calls Foggy Nelson his former partner and best friend since college. He asks Foggy to be his new Chief of staff, replacing Wesley from Kingpin’s organization.
As The room clears out Sam (Blindspot) bursts in through the window to see Matt. Matt just barely pulls Foggy out of the way of Sam Crashing through. The police go to subdue him, but Matt tells them that Blindspot is his personal Bodyguard, and they relent.
What Just Happened?
Sam explains to Matt and Foggy that The Beast offered to give him the power to defeat the Muse, and Sam rejected that allure. In the process, he called the Hand to New York to find him for the Beast. Matt is noticeably surprised, first that Sam would face the Muse alone, and next to the lengths is enemies.
Matt hears a police distress call over the radio, and he and Blindspot decide that they can respond the quickest (Against Foggy’s wishes I might add), and they take off to try and save the officers.
They arrive at the building and see several injured officers, pinned down by ninja snipers. It does not take Daredevil long to get their position, and with his enhanced senses, he turns the two assailants smoke.
Blindspot and Daredevil enter the building, but something is off. Matt uses his Radar sense to detect the heart beats and hear the enemy, but he is not getting a true reading. As they travel in they soon find out why…
Rating: 8/ 10
The plot thickens as the Mayor firms his hold on the city and begins to surround himself with those he trusts. The plots begin to intersect and even playback to Daredevil 597. A good story will do this and draw you into the character’s and plot development so it all feels like one cohesive tale. Charles Soule has done a beautiful job of the balancing act that is a Daredevil comic. From Courtroom to Comic Book he has the heart of the Man without Fear!
