What You Need to Know:

Jessica is running from the Green Lantern Corps. She is accused of a Crime that she does not remember. The last thing that she remembers was a delivery where she was scheduled to accompany to drop off supplies. The only other witness was the pilot Accampo, and he runs from her as well. Her only chance at sparing her good name lies with a Data Drive stick that Accampo has.

Simon reaches Jessica just in time, and he tells her that she should have known that he would stick by her side. He reminds Jessica that he was once falsely imprisoned for terrorism.

What You’ll Find Out:

Elsewhere Accampo, the supposed accomplice to Jessica’s Crimes and really the other victim, try to get to a safe house. Only to discover that now reunited the Lanterns Simon and Jessica discovered his whereabouts. After a small dust-up where Simon trounces his friend, Accampo finally comes clean on what happened.

It turns out that the two had been manipulated by a wealthy individual named Obazaya V’Sheer. He has developed a signal that turns anyone nearby into raging Murders. This signal was meant to keep his planet visitors docile and protect his interests, but it has been turned into a deterrent for those who may cause trouble on the Pleasure planet in sector 278.

Accampo and the Lanterns travel there to confront him in person.

What Just Happened?

The cunning Mr. V’Sheer is not going to give Accampo a straight answer, so Simon and Jessica decide to take matters into their own hands. Simon bursts out of the ship and tells V’Sheer that he is under Arrest! Unfortunately that the Lanterns were flying under the radar since they arrived in a spaceship. He calls the guards, and the Lanterns face off against the security team. They are hit with some Tasers knocked unconscious.

In true Explaining Super Villain fashion V’Sheer talks about his evil plan and tells the Lanterns that even if they tell someone, it would be their word against his, and he crushes the Data Drive in his hands. This should destroy any evidence that there was a signal that made Jessica go crazy. The Lanterns quickly recover and Simon (who still has his ring) captures Obazaya V’Sheer in a cage. Just then Accampo runs away unexpectedly as the one and only Hal Jordan shows up on the scene. Hal says it was a rookie mistake to send the partner of the accused to bring her in, but ultimately he would do the same for Kilawog. Hal releases V’Sheer from Simon’s construct. Just then Accampo returns with the signal device to prove Jessica’s story. He sends the inhabitants of the Vacation Planet into a Murderous Frenzy!

With the signal device destroyed, Hal listens to Jessica. She tears into him about believing her. Hal returns her ring and says the Guardians sent him, because her ring has an anomaly inside it, and apologizes that it still has cat hair on it. Reunited at last with her ring, Jessica and Simon take off for some well-deserved pancakes.

Final Thought:

Even though this is a fill-in writer, it seems like finally, we have a writer that gets the character’s voices. Jessica is an amazingly resilient character, and so resourceful. We get to see her in action without the ring. She is level-headed and so clever. I am glad to see a writer with Aaron Gillespie that seems to actually take care of the interactions between Simon and Jessica, let alone the Green Lantern Corps. That said this was one of the more enjoyable story arcs in a while. They didn’t really re-invent the wheel, but it was not a tired old re-tread of an old DC story, and it was interesting to see what Jessica would do to stay one step ahead of Hal and the other Lanterns. Simon as well had his moments and shined as the True Blue partner. I’m excited to see how it all worked out, and as I have heard the creative staff is changing, this can be the starting point to send this book back on top of my list!
